Loadout Tips setup

Stripe Connect onboarding for the connected tier — ~90 seconds of typing, plus a Stripe verification step.

Loadout Tips setup

Loadout Tips is the connected tier — fans tip with any credit card directly through Loadout, you keep 98% (Loadout takes 2%, plus Stripe's standard processing fees come out of the band's share).

The form takes about 90 seconds to fill out. It's a Stripe Connect Express embedded flow — you fill out a short form inside the app, no leaving Loadout. Stripe then verifies the info you submitted — most bands clear that step instantly, occasionally Stripe's risk team takes up to 24 hours.

Start onboarding

  1. Band settingsTipsSet up Loadout Tips.
  2. The Stripe Connect Express form embeds in the page. Fill in:
    • Business type (individual or company)
    • Your name, DOB, address
    • SSN/EIN (last 4, in most cases — Stripe asks for full only if KYC requires it)
    • A bank account or debit card for payouts
  3. Save. Stripe validates and either approves on the spot or asks for one or two more pieces.
  4. Verification. After you submit, Stripe runs identity verification. For most US individuals with SSN-last-4 and matching address, this clears in seconds. If Stripe's risk team needs a closer look, the band's tipping status will show "Stripe is verifying your info" and clear automatically (usually within a few hours, occasionally up to 24). You don't need to do anything — we email you when it clears.

Most musicians clear approval in under 2 minutes total. Edge cases (under 18, certain country combinations, info mismatches) take longer or aren't supported.

What gets created

A Stripe Express account is linked to your band record. The band's stripe_account_id field holds the connection. From this point forward:

  • Tips ride a PaymentIntent with transfer_data.destination = your_account and on_behalf_of = your_account. Both are set, so processing fees come out of the band's transfer, not Loadout's platform balance.
  • Loadout's 2% per-tip is the platform fee.
  • Stripe's standard processing fee (2.9% + $0.30) is deducted from the band's share.

What "fan-side" looks like

After setup, your public band page and audience-request pages show a Tip button (alongside any external handles you've kept on). Tapping opens the Loadout tip widget:

  • Pick or enter an amount
  • Optional: attach the tip to a specific song request
  • Card details — Apple Pay / Google Pay / Link / regular card all supported
  • Submit

The fan doesn't need a Loadout account. They get a receipt by email if they entered one.

Auto-disable rule

The daily admin cron checks each connected band for tip disputes. If a band has 5 or more disputes in the trailing 30 days, tipping_enabled flips to false — your tip widget hides, your handles still show. An admin can re-enable from the admin panel after review.

This is bias-toward-safety: stopping likely-bad merchants while keeping the door open for false positives. If you think you've been auto-disabled in error, contact support.

Tip: External handles and Loadout Tips can coexist. You don't have to choose one. Some bands run both — let the fan pick the path.
